Written by Miyamoto Musashi seven days before his death, this text is composed of twenty-one precepts arranged in independent phrases. The Dokkodo is considered to be not only an extremely valuable historic document, since the original in Musashi’s own handwriting is still conserved, but also an indispensable text for comprehending the philosophy that Musashi professed about life and about his singular form of budo.
